Monarch (Steamboat), 1 Sep 1856

THE MONARCH - We notice the arrival on Saturday in our harbor of a new steamer, built this season at Sorel, by D. & G. McCarthy, ship builders, and owned by A. & D. Shaw & Co. Her name is the MONARCH, and she is commanded and partly owned by Capt. A. Sinclair, favorably known on the BOSTON. Her dimensions are: Length 180 feet, beam 28 feet, hold 10 1/2 feet, engine 130 horse power, stroke 11 feet, cylinder 46 inches, capacity 270 tons, or 3,000 bbls, which leaves accomodation for 70 cabin passengers when complete. Her route is from Hamilton, Toronto, and Montreal. - Toronto Globe.

      MONARCH, built Sorel 1856, by D.& G. McCarty and owned by A.& D. Shaw & Co. and partly by Capt. A. Sinclair (ex of the BOSTON.) Dimensions, 180 X 28 X I03½ 270 tons or 5,000 bushels & 70 passengers
      Engine = 150 horse-power 11 foot stroke, 46 inch cylinder diameter, built by messrs. Davidson & Bruce at the Kingston foundry. On the vessels trials she was estimated to be an 18 mile per hour boat.

NOTE -- On the above Sept. 22 nd. mention -- the MONARCH's upper Cabins were not finished, and it was the first trial of the engine, so the MONARCH only lasted 2 months at the most

The steamer MONARCH , which was wrecked opposite Toronto last fall, was sold on the 24th. ult, for £ 575 to Mr. P. Benady, agent for the North Western Insurance Co. Oswego, & Mr. Wm. Murray, manager of the Montreal Insurance Co. both of whom acted on behalf of the Companies which they represent. The hull lies embedded in the sand and the engine and boiler are on the beach, having been raised during the Winter by Captain Packard from Buffalo--Buffalo Courier
