The WOLVERINE Retired.
Washington, D. C., Jan. 12. - The Navy department has decided to retire the gunboat WOLVERINE from active service on Lake Erie and replace it with a larger and more heavily armored vessel. The size and style of armor of the new vessel will depend upon the construction of the treaty with Canada, but the vessel will be as large and heavily equipped as possible under the treaty.
Secretary of the Navy, Meyer, today promised that the WOLVERINE would be turned over to the Naval Militia of Pennsylvania and stationed at Erie when the new vessel takes its place on the lake.
