Rising Star (Schooner), U21474, 15 Sep 1865
- Full Text
Launch . - Yesterday afternoon at 3:30 the new and beautiful schooner RISING STAR was launched from the yard of Messrs. Kitts & Chandler, her builders. A large crowd of people assembled to witness the launch, and at the time appointed she gracefully glided into her native element, and now sits in the water like a duck. The RISING STAR is pronounced by competent judges to be the most beautiful model built in this city for many years. She is staunchly built and is owned by Messrs. Dunn & Cummings, and is valued at $29,000. Her dimensions are as follows: Length of keel, 136 feet; width of beam, 26 feet; depth of hold, 11 feet, 5 inches; capacity, 20,000 bushels of wheat.
