Boutell Transportation & Towing Co. is the name of a corporation organized in Cleveland, a few days ago, with $300,000 capital to operate vessels on the Atlantic coast. The incorporators are Wm. H. Mack, W. H. Becker, Benj. Boutell, Alfred Mitchell and R. M. Lee. The new company has purchased the tugs SWEEPSTAKES, PETER SMITH and TRAVELER, and takes over also the vessels of the Mack- Becker fleet, as well as the barge J.C. FITZPATRICK, which went to the coast under contract with the Atlantic Transportation Co. The operation of these barges in the coal trade, together with a general towing business, is so planned that success seems assured for the new company. The barges are certainly among the very best that left the lakes, and with the control of three tugs it is expected that the company will not only be able to care for its own vessels but will do other towing. The owners of these vessels, who are in reality pooling their interests in the new company, are practical vessel men and it would seem that they should find no serious difficulty in operating their vessels on the Atlantic coast any more than on the lakes. They start in with plenty of working capital and will probably establish headquarters at Boston, sending W. H. Mack there to take up the management of the vessels. The Gilchrist vessels on the coast are being operated in connection with the Luckenbach towing interests of New York.
