THE PEARL AND GAZELLE TO BE DISPOSED OF AT PUBLIC AUCTION.
      SEIZED BY THE MARSHAL.
Apparently the excursion business last season was not very profitable to the Crystal Beach Steamboat & Ferry Company, as both of its boats are now weighted down with libel actions.
Today Deputy Clerk of the United States Court D. C. Forlong issued a warrant of sale to Deputy United States marshal J. V. Kane authorizing him to sell at public auctions the steamers PEARL and GAZELLE, both of which steamers are owned by the above company.
Several weeks ago H. K. Wicks & Co., coal dealers, began libel proceedings against the Crystal Beach Steamboat & Ferry Company to recover payment of coal furnished the two boats during the summer season.
A libel execution was obtained and Deputy Kane seized the vessels. The company did not bond the boats, and when the case came up before Judge Coxe of the United States District Court he decided in favor of the libeliants and a degree of sale was granted. This morning the warrant of sale was issued and Marshal Kane will designate the day of sale on which the vessels now lying at the dock will be disposed of at public auction.
It appears that H. K. Wick & Company furnished several tons of coal to the Steamboat Company for which they received no money. Their action calls for $36,039.80.
Seven other actions for judgment for various amounts are entered against each of the boats and it is likely that only a small percentage of the money will be recovered.
Arthur W. Rickman is president of the company owning the PEARL and GAZELLE and J. E. Rebstock is manager. The boats have been plying to the different excursion resorts on Lake Erie at intervals for several years. It is not expected that both of the vessels will bring more than $25,000 to $35,000, which is not half enough to pay off the encumbrances.
