Steam Boats - On Saturday last an amusing scene of competition took place on the line from Kingston to Toronto. The large steamer COBOURG, favourably known as a safe and commodious boat, advertised to start at 12 o'clock, noon, and carry passengers for four
dollars - six being the ordinary fare. The mail steamer St. GEORGE was to leave at the same hour, and her spirited proprietor, Mr. Bethune, at once issued notice reducing her fare to three dollars and a half. The scene on the wharf was most amusing - great canvassing for passengers went on, between the boats, and the public seemed highly to relish the reduction of fares. The St. GEORGE had about a mighty start, but we fancy was soon overtaken. Six dollars, the old fare in the mail line, is certainly too much. Four, we think, amply sufficient. - Patriot
