Wonderful. As a child of five, in 1944, I sailed with my parents aboard her from Detroit to Buffalo. It was an unforgettable experience and it's marvellous to find her every bit as magnificent as my memories would have her.
Thanks very much for the opportunity to see this!

During the summer of 1948, as a sixteen year old youth, I signed-on in Detroit and had the privilege of serving aboard her as a cabin porter. That sailing season she was making seven day cruises of 2400 miles that originated in Buffalo, NY on Saturday evenings, made Sunday stops in Cleveland and Detroit to pick up passengers and then continued the cruise with a two hour layover on Mackinac Island on Monday, a full day stop in Chicago on Tuesday, a full day at Mackinac Island on Wednesday, several hours in Midland, Ontario (Georgian Bay) on Thursday, a short stop in Detroit on Friday and back in port in Buffalo on Saturday to reprovision for the next cruise. I spent four weeks aboard her, cleaning cabins and polishing brass. Whenever I visit the Dossin's Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle here in Detroit where her Grand Salon is displayed, it sure brings back memories of that long-ago summer.

after the was I was young lad who often went down just past the verners plant to the foot of woodward to see the bob-lo boats. I'd walk along the brick street and just down river would often see the city of detroit or city of cleveland tied up awaiting passangers and cars. would also see the put-in-bay and the uss south american. the postcard brings back memories.

i collect vintage playing cards and recently aquired a deck from d and c lake lines and i beleive the ship on the cards is the detroit, it must have been fascinating to cruise the great lakes in that era on such a magnificient work of art like her.
