      BARQUE CHIEFTAIN ASHORE.- The barque CHIEFTAIN, Capt. Miner, from Chicago for this port, met the ice this side of Point Abino, about 10 o'clock on Tuesday night, and endeavored to come through. The captain finding that he was drifting down with the ice, and being unable to extricate his vessel, let go his large anchor, which brought his vessel to. About 2 o'clock yesterday morning, the chain parted, and the vessel was carried further down, when he let go his small anchor. That held the vessel for some two hours, when that chain parted, and she again drifted down. At daylight the captain got his boat out and sent it ashore with a line, which was made fast to the shore, but that also parted, and the vessel went ashore near the head of Strawberry Island, the vessel went ashore near the head of Strawberry Island, below Black Rock, where she was made fast. As soon as the ice stops running, she will be got off and brought up. There was scarcely a breath of wind during the night, and the captain was unable to use his canvas. The CHIEFTAIN's cargo consisted of 12,000 bushels of wheat, 225 bbls. flour, 190 bbls. hams, 37 bbls. pork and 375 bags of barley. All with the exception of the hams and pork, was taken on at Milwaukee last fall.
