WESTERN WORLD Steamer and Schooner HUDSON collide off Gravelly Bay, Damage $200 (for both ?)
      Buffalo Morning Express (casualty List)
      Jan. 11, 1856

      . . . . .

COLLISION.---Capt. Cotton, of the steamer WESTERN WORLD, which arrived
yesterday informs us that he was run into on Sunday morning, about 2 o'clock, by
the schooner HUDSON, Captain Stone. Neither vessel sustained any serious injury.
The night was very foggy and the schooner was not seen by the officers of the
steamer until they were within half a length of their vessel from her, and had the
HUDSON kept her course she could just have cleared the steamers bows. As it was
her bowsprit struck the steamer, tearing out a few boards. The HUDSON, as soon
as she ascertained that she was not injured and did not require any assistance from
the steamer, continued on her course. The HUDSON had no horn or bell on board or
anything with which to make a noise, hence the accident. The WESTERN WORLD
was making only four or five revolutions, just enough to keep her on course.
