STEAMBOAT ASHORE.---Capt. Estes, of the steamer NIAGARA, here last night,
reports seeing the new Canadian steamer EUROPA, high and dry on Snake Island,
yesterday morning. We have no particulars. The EUROPE is owned by Captain
Harrison, and some Hamilton men, and plies between Hamilton, Kingston and
Ogdensburg. Snake Island is a few miles above Kingston, near where Lake Ontario
begins to narrow into the River St.lawrence. We hear that the EUROPA was not well
manned, but had a green set of officers, who did not know the way from Hamilton to
Kingston, and this may explain the cause of the disaster. It is said that on the first
trip of the EUROPA to Kingston, she got loose among the Ducks - so far did the
officers lose their reckoning.--------Rochester Union
