COLLISION ON THE LAKE.
The steamer NORTHERN INDIANA, which left here on a pleasure excursion on Tuesday morning ran into the schooner PLYMOUTH belonging to Jason Parker, of this city off Milan bound down, yesterday morning about half past one o'clock, sinking the schooner and badly injuring the steamer.
The schooner was laden with eighty-three hundred bushels of wheat, one hundred and fifty barrels of flour, and seven tierces of ashes. The collision took place twenty miles off shore between Black River light and Cleveland. The steamer struck the schooner about midship, piercing her nearly through. The concussion was severe and the schooner held on the bow of the steamer for two minutes, when they seperated, the schooner going down bow first.
There were ten persons on board of the schooner, all of whom were saved, by the small boat of the schooner and taken on board of the steamer entirely destitute of clothing, having but about eight minutes to save themselves.
The wind was blowing very heavy at the time of the accident, as it had during the passage, but the sky was clear and both vessels had light's at the time. The steamer was badly broken in her bow, and put in at Cleveland leaking considerably, with three feet of water in her hold. We gather the above mainly from a dispatch in the Republic of last evening sent to that paper by its senior proprietor who was on the NORTHERN INDIANA.
