EFFECTS OF THE GALE. -- The gale of Saturday proved disastrous to the shipping of the lakes. We learn that the propeller GEN. TAYLOR, which left here on Saturday morning with a part load of merchandise, bound to Dunkirk to fill up, went on the rocks inside of the break-water of that harbor. She was scuttled. The extent of her damage is not fully ascertained. She belongs to J.L. Hurd & Co., of Detroit, and ran in the North Shore Line.
The schooner D.W. CHURCH is ashore at Vermillion.

The schooner D.W. CHURCH, hence the 25th for Cape Vincent, with wheat and corn, ran into Vermillion pier, during the storm on Thursday, and sunk. She was loaded by S.E. Hitchcock, of this place. Cargo will be saved in a damaged state. Insured. -- Sandusky Register
