. . . . .
From Capt. Harris, of the schooner BUENA VISTA, we learn the particulars of the effect of the gale in his vicinity. He reports the loss of the schooner O.Q. MELZAR. The BUENA VISTA and the MELZAR cleared from this port, from Manistee, on the 11th. inst. The next day (Sunday) the gale had reached such a height that both vessels ran for a harbor. The south-west wind blowing very heavily, made a harbor under Shushwaw Point, about 2 P.M. In less than two hours, the MELZAR parted both chains and went ashore.
The BUENA VISTA rode out the gale until Tuesday, when she took on board the crew of the MELZAR, her sails, rigging, &c., and brought them to this city.
The MELZAR was almost a new vessel, and is owned at Detroit. She lies bedded deep in the sand, waterlogged. She had a full cargo of lumber. Both vessel an cargo may possibly be saved. ---- Chicago Journal

The schooner O.Q. MELZAR, whose loss we reported a few days since, belongs to Capt. Eber Ward 2nd. of Detroit, and was valued at $6,000. Insured for $3,000. She can probably be got off without great damage. She was built at Port Huron, a year ago last spring.
