COLLISION ON THE LAKE. - The steamer St. LAWRENCE, Capt. J.J. Hollister,
which left Sandusky yesterday, at 4 P.M., was run into between Fairport and Ashtabula
last night, about 10 o'clock, by the steamer QUEEN CITY, Capt. Wilkins, bound from
Dunkirk to Detroit. The QUEEN CITY struck the St.LAWRENCE about fifteen feet
from her stern, cutting it almost off. The St. LAWRENCE kept on her course and the
QUEEN CITY turned and came along with the St.LAWRENCE for about two hours,
when, on finding that the St. LAWRENCE could keep up by working her pumps she
turned and went to Detroit. The damage the St. LAWRENCE has sustained, will
probably cost $5,000 to $8,000 to repair. She goes into Messrs. Bidwell & Banta's
dry dock this afternoon. It will detain her about ten or twelve days to repair. It was
a beautiful night, the moon shone quite bright - the lake was smooth, and it occurred
early in the night, when the decks were full of passengers. Blame must attach some
where.
