      Jan. 2, 1854 (casualty list)

      . . . . .

The Express says the schooner MIRANDA, which arrived here Saturday evening
from Milwaukee, with a cargo of wheat, experienced heavy weather on the Upper
Lakes, which caused her to leak badly. She had between three and four feet of
water in her hold at times. Her cargo is nearly all damaged. The Captain noted a
protest at Detroit.
