The effects of the late gale appear to have been quite disastrous. It is reported that between 20 and 30 vessels are ashore on Lake Michigan. The schooners J.E. SHAW, ATHENIAN and Brig COLUMBIA are ashore at Gros Cap. The schooner KENOSHA with a cargo of wheat, reported ashore at False Presque Isle, is said to be safe.

The steamer QUEEN reports the schooner J. E. SHAW ashore at St. Helena Island. She was loaded with 15,000 bushels of wheat for Oswego, from J.C. Wright & Co., of this city, and both vessel and cargo was fully insured.
