SCHOONER NORTH STAR SUNK BY COLLISION.
We learn from the Detroit Advertiser of Yesterday, that the propeller ONTONAGON and schooner NORTH STAR collided on Saturday night last at about 10 o'clock, some eight miles below Point Aux Barques. The propeller struck the vessel a little abaft amidship, with much force, cutting her half in two. The stem of the propeller cut through the vessel past the mainmast. The two vessels hung together for about an hour, but as soon as they became detached the NORTH STAR filled fast, and sunk in ten minutes. All the hands of the STAR were soon on board of the propeller, which sustained but little injury. The NORTH STAR was loaded with 11,600 bu. corn from Chicago to Buffalo, which, together with the vessel, will be a total loss. She belonged to the Lake Navigation Co., which do not insure. We did not learn whether her cargo was insured or not. The ONTONAGON was bound for Chicago with a cargo of merchandise. The crew of the vessel were taken to Presque Isle by the propeller, and there happening to meet the steamer QUEEN CITY, bound down, they were taken on board of her and brought to Detroit.
