We are informed that the prop. REPUBLIC took fire yesterday afternoon at her dock, Sandusky, and burned to the water's edge. She was not loaded at the time having delivered her up cargo. The REPUBLIC has been running this season in the New York and Erie Railroad Line from Dunkirk. She was owned, we believe by Capt. Ludlow; was worth about $18,000, and was insured.

We had a brief statement on Saturday of the destruction of the propeller REPUBLIC by fire at Sandusky. Since then the Register has come to hand, from which we learn that she caught fire about 3:00 Friday afternoon, from some unknown cause, while lying at the dock near the rolling freight house of the S.M. & N. R.R. Co. The whole upper works of the propeller, together with the warehouse, were consumed in 30 minutes, and it was only by the most strenuous exertions of the firemen (after losing one of their engines and hose carts by fire,) with the hearty help of the citizens, that a schooner, grain warehouse, and salt house, were saved from the flames. All danger was not passed until 8:00 in the evening. Contrary to the information on Saturday, the Register say the REPUBLIC was bound down loaded with flour, live cattle and hogs from Detroit, and had stopped at Sandusky and taken on considerable additional freight, consisting of flour, eggs, oil and butter. All were destroyed. The freight house was insured for $10,000 and had only a small amount of goods in it. The propeller was insured for $12,000. What insurance on the freight destroyed, if any, there was of course it is impossible to say.
