ON THE REEF. - The brig OCEAN EAGLE, Capt. Rogers with a cargo of 16,000 bushels wheat consigned to J.G. Deshler, mistook the light on the reef for the light on Buffalo Pier and went hard on Saturday evening between 7 and 8 o'clock. The light on the pier had been taken down to be replaced by a new one and a large globe lamp was suspended in the meantime. The brig lies three feet out and is full of water.
The tug STILLMAN WITT with a couple of canal boats and a large gang of men was sent out yesterday afternoon to light her up and bring in the grain.

A DEED OF PERSEVERANCE CROWNED WITH SUCCESS. - It will be recollected, says the Commercial, that we noticed some days since that the brig OCEAN EAGLE, with a cargo of wheat bound in, went hard on Horse Shoe Reef. Several attempts were made to pump her out, and get her off, but without success. A boat load or so of the wheat was out, and the general belief was that she would go to pieces. Capt. Munson, of the North Western Insurance Co., however did not feel disposed to abandon her. After setting five pumps aboard, and then not being able to float her, he adopted the plan of sinking two canal boats commonly called "Lake Boats," alongside, passing timber from one to the other, and attaching the vessel to them. The boats were then pumped out, "plugged" and the vessel floating, was towed into port yesterday morning, about five o'clock. The OCEAN EAGLE goes into dry dock.
