      SCHOONER CHIEFTAIN. - Our readers will remember that an unknown vessel was
reported as having gone ashore, in the recent great gale, 14 miles above Saugeen. This
vessel proves to be the schooner CHIEFTAIN, a new Canadian craft insured in the
Northwestern. She was on her way to Chicago, in ballast. The tug OSWEGO has been
despatched to her relief, and it is thought she may be easily got off. She is out about 3 ft.
fore and aft. - Detroit Tribune.

      The tug OSWEGO, that went to the assistance of the schooner CHIEFTAIN, ashore 16 miles above Saugeen on Lake Huron, has returned, having failed to get the schooner off. The CHIEFTAIN is in about two feet water, and is perfectly safe from everything but the ice, which, if she is not floated before winter, will be likely to injure her.
