THE STEAMER "TRAVELER" ASHORE.---We learned at a late hour last night
that the steamer TRAVELER, just purchased by John Hutchings & Co., of this city,
on her way down from Chicago to Buffalo, is ashore at Mackinaw.
The extent of the damage, or whether or not she will be got off without injury, our
informant did not ascertain. The tug LEVIATHAN was lighting her at the time. The
steamer CLEVELAND will immediately go to her assistance. - Detroit Free Press

The stmr. TRAVELER, which was noticed a few mornings since as having got
ashore at Mackinaw, on Thursday evening, on her way down from Chicago, was
speedily got off, and arrived at her dock in this city yesterday noon. She was on
a point of frost bottom land which projects into the Straits near Mackinaw,
striking about midships. The sea broke over her considerably, but she was
relieved of her freight and her pumps kept working, so that at no time was there
more than 3 ft. of water in her hold. The tug LIVIATHAN came to her assistance
and having removed her entire freight, got her off about 40 hours after she first
struck. As soon as she was relieved, her leaking stopped, and, the damage which
she received will be trifling. She brought her entire freight, consisting of 900
barrels of flour, with the exception of 260 barrels of high wines, which were left at
Mackinaw. She will not proceed to Buffalo, but go into winter quarters at once.
