PORTAGE Schooner of 224 tons, owned Oswego by S. Dolittle. Bound from Marquette, Lake Superior to Cleveland, Lake Erie, lost her mainmast on Lake Superior, August 1871. Loss to vessel $200.

      MAINMAST GONE. - The schooner PORTAGE, bound to Portage River recently, lost her mainmast in a gale on Lake Erie, and was towed into Cleveland.

NOTE:- big difference in Location of casualty; there is a Portage River on Lake Erie. The Buffalo Commercial Advertiser's version is believed and is being documented as the proper casualty.
