NEW YORK Steam screw of 1345 gross tons, built 1879. Official U. S. Number 130157. Propeller burned at Thunder Bay, Mich. Oct. 1, 1910, fourteen persons on board no lives lost, however vessel considered a total loss.

freighter foundered.
Detroit, Oct. 3. - The package freighter NEW YORK, operated by the New York Stemship Company of Detroit, foundered early yesterday, 15 miles south of Thunder Bay light in Lake Huron. Her crew, under the command of Capt. M. H. Humphrey of this city, reached here last night aboard the steamer MATAAFA, having been picked up by the latter near the scene of the foundering. The loss on the boat and cargo is estimated at $75,000 or more.

CARRIED NO INSURANCE.
The steamer NEW YORK, which foundered in Lake Huron Sunday morning, was not insured. The steamer MATAAFA, Capt. H. J. Regan, and the barge ALEXANDER HALLEY, which picked up all the members of the crew of the lost steamer, arrived at Lorain Monday.
