      VESSELS ASHORE.- The thick smoky weather which has prevailed in this vicinity of late, seems to have been general along the Lakes, and several vessels have have gone ashore. Three are on the beach, within twelve miles of this port. The fine three-and-after J.C. HARRISON, grain-laden from Chicago, went on the outside of Point Abino on Saturday night. There is some water in her hold. A tug and lighter have gone to her assistance. She will probably be relieved today. . . . .

      OPERATIONS AT THE WRECK. - Unfortunately for the success of the work of relieving the vessels ashore in the Bay, the wind changed and blew fresh from the west, which made a suspension of operations necessary....... Nothing has yet been done to raise the BARKALOW, sunk in Point Abino Bay. One of the Revenue Cutters arrived in port last night, and will undoubtedly assist in relieving the stranded vessels.

THE BARKALOW. - The work or raising the schooner BARKALOW, sunk at Point Abino, is, we are informed, progressing favorably. The arrangements are nearly completed for raising her. She rests on a rock bottom and is not much damaged, it is thought.

      THE BARKALOW. - The wrecking schooner JOHNSON, which has been engaged for some time in an attempt to raise the sunken schooner BARKALOW, returned to this port last night, after having passed through a very severe experience. As already stated the chains had been got in position and everything was in readiness to commence lifting, but the storm of Saturday night had been raging only a few minutes when matters were in a worse shape than when the work was first begun. The BARKALOW was slewed around off of the chains, the pontoons were badly damaged by colliding with one another, and the schooner herself dragged anchor and narrowly escaped going on the beach. The chances for raising the BARKALOW this season may be set down as not good.

PORT ITEMS. - This effort of the wreckers to raise the sunken schr. BARKALOW
promises to be attended with better results than the last. She has been lifted from the bottom and her decks are above the surface of the water. The result, however, depends entirely on the state of the weather.

THE BARKALOW. - Efforts to raise the sunken schooner BARKALOW have at last been successful. She arrived in port yesterday, in tow of two tugs, and now lies at the Bennett Elevator. She is considerably damaged. The cost of the job must be consiberable, as the wrecking schooner JOHNSON has been engaged in the work a long time.
