Schooner MELVINA, aground at the Clay Banks; got off.
      Marine Disasters on the Western
Lakes during 1871, Capt. J.W. Hall

      . . . . .

SCHOONER MELVINA. - The expedition which left Detroit a few days since to get this vessel off at Pigeon Bay, has returned. All efforts to float her have thus far been unavailing. She lies on a bar on which there is but 8 1/2 feet of water. The only remedy new which is likely to be attended with success is that of dredging a channel through the bar, which experiment is to be immediately made.

      . . . . .

SCHOONER MELVINA. - This vessel is still ashore in Pigeon Bay, not far from the Clay Banks, the weather for some days being adverse for getting her afloat. The tug PARKER arrived at Detroit Thursday from the scene of disaster, where she had been engaged in connection with the tug MINNIE MORTON in floating her. The MORTON becam disabled in her machinery, when the work was again abandoned until a more favorable time.

SCHOONER MELVINA. - An examination of this vessel, after going into dry dock at Detroit, proves her damages to be comparatively trifling. She has left for Chicago.
