BUTTERS, MARSHALL F. Steam propeller, Official U. S. Number 91408, built 1882, of 376 Gross Tons. On Oct. 20, 1916, with 13 persons aboard vessel foundered in Lake Erie. No lives were lost but vessel classed as a total loss.

LUMBER VESSEL FOUNDERS; CREW BELIEVED SAFE.
Cleveland, O., Oct. 20. - The steamer MARSHALL BUTTERS, laden with lumber, foundered in Lake Erie this afternoon during a heavy gale, on the Southeast Shoal near the mouth of the Detroit River.
Three members of the crew were rescued by the steamer BILLINGS and brought here. The other twelve members of the crew are believed to have been rescued by the steamer HARTWELL, which is bound for Ashtabula.

No further tidings of the wreck of the MERIDA were received here yesterday, and according to a dispatch from Cleveland the mast discovered in the vicinity of Southeast Shoal by the Government cutter MORRELL was not that of the MERIDA, but of the wrecked steamer BUTTERS. [part]
