Lake Casualties-The brig R. HUNTER and schooner LUTHER WRIGHT came in collision off Ashtabula on Friday night. The former was bound down and the latter up. The WRIGHT was much injured in her sails and rigging. The HUNTER had her bowsprit and several of her stannchions carried away. In the collision, Capt. Travers, of the brig, fell upon the schooner, and was reported lost upon the arrival of the HUNTER here.
The schooner SUFFOLK, while loading at Michigan City, a few days since, was driven from her moorings, and was so much damaged, that it is feared that the vessel and cargo will be a loss. She had on board 6.000 bushels of wheat. The vessel was owned by W. O. Brown , of this city and with the cargo, was fully insured.
The schooner P. MILLS, in attempting to make our harbor on Saturday night was carried on to the bar below the north pier, in about five feet water. She was from Chicago with a load of wheat.
The severe east wind which has prevailed for three days, must have caused a gale at the west end of the lake, and we have some fears that we shall hear of marine disasters resulting from it.
