Milwaukie (Ship), aground, 15 Dec 1836
- Full Text
Ship MILWAUKEE, it was reported here yesterday, that during the late gale, this famous ship, on entering the Bay at Sandusky, struck Cedar Point, and has become a total wreck. We have since been informed however, that she is not entirely destroyed. The amount of damage sustained, is not yet known. This disaster occurred in the night, and in consequence of there having been no light in the light-house at the time. The Schooner TEXAS is also ashore at the same place.

Detroit, Dec. 30. - We stated a few days ago, that the MILWAUKIE was safe at the harbor at Sandusky. We were led into error. The MILWAUKIE and the TEXAS are ashore outside the harbor, and are considered unsafe, though from the last accounts they are in no immediate danger. Efforts should be immediately made to land their cargoes, which we learn are very valuable, and almost entirely consigned to this place.
