August 14. - SHIPWRECK. - Schooner DANIEL WHITNEY, Capt. Crooker (formerly of Bath, Maine) from Kalamazoo with bark, is supposed to have been capsized in the squall last Friday night, and all on board lost. - The vessel's galleys, bulwarks, hatches. etc., have drifted ashore, also one of the seamen's caps. - Journal. DAVID WHITNEY. - The schooner LAFAYETTE fell in with this vessel bottom up, about six miles northwest of Kalamazoo on Wednesday last, and with the assistance of the MARGARET SMITH, succeeded in righting her and towing her into Kalamazoo. The body of Mr. House, a passenger, was found under the deck in the hold of the vessel, and that of the cabin-boy under the cabin floor. There were four persons on board, all of whom must have perished. From appearances, the WHITNEY must have been hove to, under a close reefed mainsail and jib, at the time she capsized.
