GALE ON LAKE ONTARIO.---The gale on Lake Ontario which raged the last week in November, was unusually severe. The Oswego Herald says the lake presented a most terrific spectacle, and the weather became excesively cold. Most of the vessels obtained shelter. The CAROLINE, abandoned by her crew and left to the mercy off the waves off Sodus, was driven ashore high and dry on Stony Island, near the foot of the lake. Her cargo consisting of merchandise, much damaged, has been taken out and brought to Oswego. The vessel bilged, and most of the packages, among which were 100 boxes of tea, were broken by the action of the waves.
The Schooner BOLIVAR was lost on the Canada shore, near Presuq'Isle. The BOLIVAR was owned on Lake Erie, to which she was bound with a cargo of salt from Oswego. The crew were picked up by one of the Canadian steamboats.
