- Full Text
As the steamer AUSTRALASIA and consorts were passing the Grosse Point light Ship, Lake St. Clair, the schooner MINNEHAHA, in tow of the steamer HIAWATHA, took a sheer and struck the AUSTRALASIA a blow almost head on, just aft of the mainmast, carrying away about eighty five feet of rail, bulwarks, and thirty four stanchions, breaking her covering board and some of her outside plank. The MINNEHAHA lost her head gear and bulwarks, also lost her stem. The AUSTRALASIA stopped at Marine City and took on some oak plank with which to make repairs on reaching Duluth.
