Westford (Propeller), aground, 28 May 1887

Detroit.----the steambarge WESTFORD, having the barges MONITOR and LADY FRANKLIN in tow, ran aground on the foot of Fighting Island early Saturday morning. The LADY FRANKLIN crashed into the stern of the MONITOR, carrying away her whole stern. The LADY FRANKLIN sustained only slight damages. The MONITOR was lightered of three-fourths of her deck load and docked in the upper drydock.
