Thomas Parsons (Schooner), U24666, aground, 11 Jul 1887
- Full Text
Cross Village.---The crew of the schooner THOMAS PARSONS had a rough experience on Lake Michigan Tuesday. The vessel left Escanaba in tow of the steamer NASHUA, bound for Cleveland with a cargo of ore. Soon after passing through Death's Door she sprung a leak, but for a while her own pumps kept pace with the flow. All night the crew stood to the pumps, and when morning came the leak suddenly increased. She filled rapidly, and was fast sinking when Beaver Island was sighted. To keep her from going to the bottom she was run ashore on the island, where she now lies with her deck under water. A wrecking expedition has been sent for.
