"THE DUNCAN CITY ASHORE - Escanaba, October 23. - [Special.] The captain of the schooner Duncan City came into port yesterday, reporting his vessel, light, ashore on Summer Island, about twenty-five miles from here. He is trying to make a sale of her to the company as she lies."

The old schooner DUNCAN CITY, ashore on Summer Island, is reported to have gone to pieces. Thus ends another boat which in her day was a fine vessel, but which has been a floating coffin for many years. That she is gone, and without loss of life, is fortunate. ------- Chicago Tribune

"The tug GOLDSMITH went to Summer Island on Sunday to enable the captain to make an examination of the schooner DUNCAN CITY, with a view to getting the craft afloat. The schooner went ashore on the east side of the island last spring, and although she lies in a comfortable position and has but little water below the hatches, it is questionable whether any effort will be made to get her off, this season at least, in view of the unfavorable outlook for vessel property. Should buisness improve, and that class of bottoms appreciate in value, there is no question but that the DUNCAN CITY will be rescued in good time. The vessel is owned by the captain who sailed her at the time she went ashore."

"The schooner DUNCAN CITY, which has been on Summer Island since last fall was released by the tug MONARK last Friday. She was not much injured."
