THE PROPELLER "St. JOSEPH"--The Chicago Tribune says the propeller St. JOSEPH, loaded with hardware and other merchandise from Buffalo for Chicago, knocked a hole in her bottom on lake St. Clair Flats, admitting water at a rapid rate. Canvass was placed under her, the pumps put in operation, and she was enabled to come to Lake Michigan. But during the gale of Sunday, the canvass was torn off, the engine fires put out by the in-rushing water, and by extraordinary exertion of the crew, she made the harbor of Port Washington; again was patched up with canvass, and reached this port in safety yesterday morning at 10 o'clock. Most of her cargo had been taken off after the accident, by the schooner OCONTO. The St. JOSEPH will not be able to leave here again this season, but will go into dry dock.
