The Port Huron Wrecking and Transportation Company will attempt to release the schooner HENRY W. SAGE from the beach near Cheboygan. The SAGE, laden with iron ore and bound from Lake Superior to Cleveland, broke adrift from her steam barge on Lake Huron, and the captain, Truman Moore, put back for the Straits, but in doing so the boat went ashore about midway between Cheboygan and Rogers City. Although the wrecking company is said to be making preparations for releasing her just as soon as the weather will permit, lake masters who have been close to the stranded boat say she is broken in two. The accident occurred late in the fall of 1889.

Cheboygan, May 29. -- Orrin Kane, an engineer attending a steam pump on the steam barge MARY GROH, which is engaged in taking ore out of the wreck of the schooner SAGE in Hammond's Bay, was instantly killed today by a spar breaking and striking him on the head.
The wreckers expect to have the ore pumped out of the SAGE today and have the schooner off in a few days.

McMorran & Co., of Port Huron are still at work on the schr. H.W. SAGE, on the rocks at Hammond's Bay, loaded with ore. They have been engaged for the past three weeks in raising the ore from her, and are making fair progress it is said. They are using the stm. MICHAEL GROH as a lighter, and the method of getting up the stuff, while it may appear laborious, is said to be the most expeditious in this case. The GROH is equipped with derricks which hoist up the ore buckets after they are filled by divers at work in the vessel's hold.

Cheboygan, June 11. -- The steam barge MARY GROH finally succeeded in releasing the schooner H. W. SAGE from Hammond's Bay at 11 o'clock yesterday morning. The SAGE was brought to Duncan City, and will be patched up temporarily and be towed to Port Huron. One pump keeps the boat free. It is hogged about two feet between the fore and main mast, and all its outside planking on the starboard side shows hard usage.

It will probably cost $15,000 to repair the schooner SAGE, released last week from Hammond's bay where she had lain for nearly two years. The boat is owned by John Kelderhouse, Thomas Maytham and others of Buffalo, who bought the wreck and gave Henry McMorran of Port Huron the ore in her for the wrecking work. The wreckers took out 1000 tons before the boat was floated. She will be repaired at Buffalo.
