Rival (Schooner), collision, 4 Oct 1859

Description
Full Text

The schr. RIVAL, on Sunday, while in tow of the tug OSWEGO, bound down, ran into a large fore-and-aft scow which was atanchor in the St. Clair River, just below St. Clair, sinking her immediately. The wind was blowing heavy at the time, which caused the scow to sheer across the vessel's bows, when they collided with the above result. The schooner lost her foretopmast and some of her headgear. The name of the scow was not ascertained.
