Detroit, April 16 - The stmb. BURLINGTON, towing 3 barges all laden with lumber, took fire opposite Smith's coal dock this morning, and is still burning. In all probability the steamer will be a total loss. The crew is safe on the barges. The BURLINGTON is owned by Whitemer and others of Bay City and was worth $15,000. Her lumber cargo was worth $6,000 more.

NOTE - Sandwich West does not exist today, but in 1846 was classed as 2 mile below Detroit, on the Canadian side of the Detroit River.
