Francis Mills (Brig), aground, 3 Nov 1845

Description
Full Text

We gather from our exchanges the following summery of the disasters of the late northeast gale. A brig resembling the OWANUNGAH, is ashore at Madison, Ohio; also a fore-and-aft schooner, with white bottom, black bulwarks and a new mainmast, is beached at Chagrin. The lower lakes schooner CALEDONIA is ashore at Cleveland. The brig F. MILLS and the schooner AURORA BOREALIS, at Huron Pier. The extent of the damage sustained by these vessels is unknown. The steamer FRANKLIN, in attempting to enter Cleveland, got foul of the west pier. One of her wheels was entirely carried away, the wheel house and guards much shattered, and her false sides broken in. The hull and cargo of the boat are otherwise uninjured. A man was crowed or jumped overboard from the FRANKLIN, but was fortunately washed upon the pier and thus saved.
