Picton, July 28 - The schr. KATE was capsized by a squall at 5:30 this morning in the reach opposite Thompson's Point, Bay of Quinte. Two of the crew were drowned, Salmon a seaman who was asleep in the forecastle, and Mrs. Pappa, the cook, who was in the cabin. The schooner was about 200 tons capacity and was on her way to Charlotte, N.Y., light, to load coal. She left Belleville last night. She carried a crew of 5 in all. The stmr. HERO rescued the survivors, who were clinging to the schooners bottom and brought them to Picton. Salmon lived in Belleville, and Mrs. Pappa in Kingston. Capt. Dewitty was in charge of the schooner and Edward Bennett was mate.
