The steamer J.H OUTHWAITE and consort H.A. BARR were driven ashore in the havy easterly gale Tuesday afternoon on False Presque Isle. The crews were rescued.

      Alpena, May 27 - Capt. Reid is making good progress in the work of releasing the schooner H.A. BARR. He has moved her a considerable distance and expects to have her afloat this week.

      Alpena, May 28 - The schr. H.A. BARR ashore at False Presque Isle, was released this afternoon by the wrecker Reid at 1:00. Her condition is not known.

      Alpena, May 31 - The stmr. J.H. OUTHWAITE and schr. H.A. BARR, which was released from False Presque Isle Island Reef after spending 7 weeks there, were brought here today. The OUTHWAITE has straightened out considerably, and is not in nearly as bad shape as was first supposed.
      The holes in her bottom have been patched, and one pump keeps her free. The BARR is leaking a little. Both boats leave tonight in tow of the tug PROCTOR for Detroit.
      When the situation of the reef and the exposed conditions of the boats are taken into consideration, the release of these two vessels is one of the most successful wrecking operations ever known on the lakes. Capt. James Reid, who made the contract, will clear about $15,000 for the work, it is said.
