- Full Text
In our Lake Superior News brought by the stmr. METEOR will be noticed the disaster of the schr. THORNTON, which lies sunk in the Sault Canal, laden with iron ore. On the trip preceeding the last this vessel met with a similar disaster near Sailor's Encampment, by getting on the rocks while in tow of a tug, and sank laden with iron ore also. She was gotten up at considerable expense and put in thorough repair, and but recently set out on her second voyage of the season.

. . . . .
The schr. THORNTON, which 2 weeks since sunk in the Sault Canal with a cargo of iron ore aboard, has been got up by means of a steam pump in charge of her owner, and arrived down yesterday afternoon passing here in tow of the tug KATE MOFFATT. An accident precisely of the same character and not far distant from when the recent one occurred, happened this vessel once before this season, requiring a large outlay for repairs which have not to be repeated. Her cargo goes to Cleveland, to which point she proceeded.
