City of Rome (Propeller), U125914, damaged by ice, 1 Dec 1896
- Full Text
Chicago, Sept. 25 - Total loss claims for the stmr. CITY OF ROME were paid today by the last of the insurance companies having policies on the vessel when she was wrecked last fall. The litigation which ensued from the loss of the ROME will be dropped. The steamer was insured for $175,000 when wrecked in the ice in Lake Erie last December. She was brought to Detroit and repaired. Some of the companies refused payment on the grounds that the steamer was not a total loss, and Capt. W.M. Egan, managing owner, sued for that amount.
