Empire State (Propeller), collision, 25 Sep 1867

The EMPIRE STATE collided with the schooner SPENCER near Grosse Point the 25th inst., and was severely damaged, but did not sink, being loaded with shingle bolts. One sailor was badly hurt, and the crew were taken on board the ORION and brought to Chicago. It is feared that the vessel will be lost in the rough weather, but the wrecking steamer G.W. WOOD was sent to tow her in. The vessel was worth $6,000.
