Description
Full Text

Scow No. 12 of the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. which rammed into the intake pier early yesterday morning, ripping a hole amidships and floating half sunk down the Niagara River, was discovered yesterday morning lying at the head of Strawberry Island, partially submerged in about 18 feet of water.
Discovery was made about noon by Capt. Louis Schaller of the excursion boat HEDGE WICKWIRE. He capped up the tug INTERNATIONAL.
Scow 12 is not an iron scow, but a wooden boat. It was reported at the time of the accident that the scow was iron. It was valued at about $10,000. Tugs from the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. will tow the scow into the slip today, where a diver probably will be sent down to patch the bottom before attempting to float her.
The force with which scow 12 hit the pier may be judged from the fact the impact tore away a pocket door from the bottom, tossing the metal and wood high on the pier. The wreckage was discovered on the pier yesterday morning.
