Kingston, Oct. 8 - The schr. DEFIANCE, laden with lumber, from Toronto to Ogdensburg, went ashore on Snake Island reef during the gale this morning, and is in a dangerous position.

      The schooner DEFIANCE is ashore at Snake Island Reef and is going to pieces. Her crew were taken off with considerable difficulty. They were in the rigging nearly all one night.

SCHOONER DEFIANCE - The schooner DEFIANCE, which went ashore on Snake Island Reef, Lake Ontario, and reported to be a total loss, was built at Port Hope, in 1839, measured 141 tons burden and rated B 1, she was valued at $3,500.
