The tug RELIEF left Erie Saturday afternoon, for this port, with two canal boats in tow, on board of which were five horses. After being out an hour or so, the lake became very rough, and both boats were lost. The crews were taken on board the tug, but the horses went down with the boats.

      CANAL BOATS LOST. - We clip the following from the Erie Dispatch: " The canal boats BILL McCURDY and HIBERMAN No. 3, were taken in tow by the tug RELIEF, on Saturday last, to go to Buffalo, to be put in service on the Erie Canal; but in consequence of rough weather and a heavy sea they were swamped, and went down a total loss, together with 5 horses which were on board of them. The owners were induced to put them on the Erie Canal on acount of recent advances in freight."
