THE ATMOSPHERE IN TROUBLE - The following special dispatch appeared in the Cleveland Leader of Yesterday:
Sandusky, August 30. - "During a heavy fog, about half past 3 o'clock this morning, the large schooner ATMOSPHERE, belonging to Valentine Fries, of Milan, this county, ran onto the shore of Kelly's Island, just abreast of Marblehead Point. There was a heavy sea at the time, and there was imminent danger that the vessel would be pounded to pieces. She was heavily laden with salt in the hold, and had on considerable freight as deck load, among which were fifty tons of coal. Thirty-five tons of coal, which belonged to Groch & MacKey of this city, were thrown overboard, and immediately afterwards the schooner was sighted by the United States steamer PERRY, which went to her assistance and pulled her off. The ATMOSPHERE was, fortunately, uninjured, but if the PERRY had not rendered such timely assistance, she would have gone to pieces in thirty minutes. The schooner is now discharging her cargo here." - Ocean, 31.
