Thursday afternoon about 5:00 the porp. NEWAYGO bound down the river for Tonawanda loaded with a cargo of ore, went fast aground just above Mutz Bros.'s boat house at the foot of Ontario Street.
In spite of the efforts of two tugs she could not be got off and after parting 2 lines in their efforts to release her they gave it up as a hopeless task. Yesterday a tug and a heavy scow were sent down to transfer a part of her cargo, and with the assistance of two tugs she was released late yesterday afternoon.
She was only a few feet out of the channel and while the stern was hard aground the bow was in deep water.
