Knight Templar (Schooner), sunk, 28 Nov 1865

Description
Full Text

We had hoped that the record of further disasters in the Flats had passed by, for the present season, at least, a large number having laid up, leaving comparatively few to traverse through the difficult passes the remainder of the fall, but it appears otherwise from the following record. A few grain loaded vessels arrived at the Flats on Monday evening, and doubtless, owing to thick weather, grounded, and afterwards run into by others following in the rear. The schooner KNIGHT TEMPLAR, a new vessel, grain loaded, is sunk, it is stated, across the channel. The schooner RUSSIAN has also sustained serious damage to her stern, and the barks S.V.R. WATSON and DESOTO, which are reported there also, lie blockaded and unable to pass through. The cause of the above disaster we could not learn, as none of them have yet arrived down.

The KNIGHT TEMPLAR which met with disaster by sinking on the Flats, with a cargo of corn, was towed to this city on Sunday afternoon. Her entire cargo is in a damaged condition and her hold seriously injured by fire caused from the steam pumps. The corn is being taken out of her, and the vessel will immediately be placed in drydock for reapirs.
